Made of high-grade stainless steel and combined with elastic ties or bands to gently move teeth as prescribed, traditional metal braces are the most common type, and they have been effectively used to straighten teeth for a very long time. Plus, Space City Orthodontics can start your traditional metal braces treatment the same day you come in!

Learn More About Metal Braces

Space City Orthodontics is proud to offer KLOwen Custom Braces. These specialty braces provide a tailored solution, utilizing advanced digital design to perfectly match your individual dental structure. Our orthodontists use cutting-edge AI-driven software to choose the ideal custom brackets for each tooth, positioning them optimally. This results in an accelerated journey towards a stunning new smile. Benefits include:

  • Quicker treatment completion, up to 40% faster than other braces treatments
  • Reduced necessity for in-office appointments
  • A choice between metal or clear brackets

Damon Braces

Damon braces are a popular alternative to traditional metal braces. These braces use “self-ligating” technology, which means there’s no need for elastic ties. Damon braces gently shift teeth into the desired position and are often more comfortable—and sometimes work faster—than traditional metal or ceramic braces.

Ceramic braces are less noticeable on the teeth because they’re either clear or tooth-colored. Ceramic brackets gradually realign your teeth to help perfect your smile, just like traditional metal or Damon braces. They’re popular with adults because they’re more discreet than metal braces.

Learn About Ceramic Braces

I've had quite the journey in the dental world over the past year, and this summer I finally made it to getting Invisalign at 39 years old. Never had braces as a kid so this was all new to me and very important to get right. I've yet to meet Dr. Bhagia, but the operation he has set up is truly impressive. Each person who works at Space City Orthodontics is highly trained and experienced in this field, able to answer all of my questions and remove doubts.I must mention everyone who deserves recognition for their expertise. Dr. Kamal, Rheanna, Paige, Joanna, Jenna, Andy, and Sylvia. Each one of them knows what they're talking about and have helped me with all my questions about Invisalign.I also need to give personal shout outs to:Joanna for seeing me several times in office and keeping up with my Smile Doctors app for my weekly scans, letting me know when to move to the next Invisalign tray. Thanks Joanna!Jenna for my whitening and starting me off with my first tray when I had no idea what I was doing. She works hard!Rheanna for my consultation and with Dr. Kamal's help, helping me choose what plan was right for me.Dr. Kamal for seeing me on my check ups and giving me the reassurance of a DDS orthodontist who clearly has done this many times and knows what you can expect.Paige for her friendly customer service and also helping me with my Invisalign questions via phone and person.Everyone at Space City Orthodontics knows what they're doing, and I would highly recommend them to anyone in the northwest side of Houston who wants Invisalign or braces for themselves or their children. These guys make it look easy, but they were obviously carefully chosen. Still on my Invisalign journey, but thank you to Space City Orthodontics for making me start to feel like I'll one day soon at last have normal looking straight white teeth.

I’m beyond happy with the final results. I love my new smile. Thank you Dr. B and team. Y’all are really out here changing lives. 👏🏼🫶🏻

I absolutely love Space City Orthodontics in League City! They’re always on time, responsive, and have made my Invisalign process so easy. I’m still in the middle of my treatment, but I’ve seen such a huge improvement from a crooked bottom row of teeth and a slight overbite to straight and gorgeous. They’re perfecting it now with a couple for aligners to go. The team is incredibly knowledgeable and kind, and they’ve been so helpful with my insurance and providing the documentation I needed for my FSA eligibility. The office has such a welcoming atmosphere. Everyone seems genuinely happy to work there, and it really shows. They’re always so sweet with kids, and little touches like their ice cream and “Space City Ortho” chapsticks make every visit fun. (I even stopped by once just to grab a new chapstick after losing mine, and they were so nice about it!)I look forward to my visits here (something I’ve never said about any other doctor or dental office before). I’m no longer shy of smiling, and it’s now my favorite feature on my face. Highly recommend Space City Orthodontics to anyone considering Invisalign or orthodontic care!

What foods should I avoid while I have braces?

To prevent damage to your brackets and wires or food from becoming trapped between them, there is a short list of foods to avoid when wearing braces. The foods to avoid are:

  • Chewy foods such as fruit leathers, beef jerky, or bagels
  • Highly crunchy foods like raw carrots, chips, raw celery, and popcorn
  • Sticky foods like caramel candy, licorice, and marshmallows
  • Very hard foods like hard candy, hard breadsticks, or pizza crust
  • Any food that requires biting, such as apples or corn on the cob. These foods can still be enjoyed by slicing the apples or removing the corn from the cob.
How do I brush my teeth with braces?

Here are the step-by-step instructions for proper brushing and flossing when wearing braces:

  1. Before brushing, do a quick rinse with water. This will dislodge any food particles stuck between the wires or brackets.

  2. Brush beginning at the gum line, using a 45-degree angle of approach. As you move towards the brackets brush from both the top and the bottom, ensuring that the bristles reach under the wires and around the brackets. This process may take some extra time in the beginning, but once you are used to it, it will be routine for you.

  3. Follow up with a thorough flossing. You will need to use precise and careful flossing technique to make sure you do not dislodge or loosen the brackets or wires. Your doctor will help you how to perfect your flossing technique during your appointment.

After brushing, floss thoroughly. Be sure to use a precise and careful technique to avoid dislodging or loosening the brackets or wires. Always let your Space City Orthodontics doctor know if you need help or guidance on perfecting your flossing technique during your appointment.

Are braces painful? How do I ease the pain?

Generally speaking, braces aren’t painful. However, immediately after you get them there may be a little soreness or discomfort. This is completely normal and temporary.

To relieve soreness and inflammation, it can help to rinse with a saltwater solution. Simply dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt in a full cup of lukewarm water, then swish it in your mouth for a few minutes. If you still feel sore, it’s ok to take an over-the-counter pain reliever such as ibuprofen (Advil®) or acetaminophen (Tylenol®). One more tip: using your dental wax can help with some of the discomfort in your lips, cheeks, or tongue in the weeks after getting braces.

I’ve heard of Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs). What are they, and will I need them?

In the past, orthodontists faced challenges in treating severe bite problems and patients with missing teeth, as they required external anchor points to adjust misaligned teeth accurately. Unfortunately, treatments such as headgear and external braces were unsightly and inconvenient. However, the introduction of Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs) has revolutionized orthodontic treatment.

By attaching an anchor to the jawbone, TADs provide an extra internal anchor point that eliminates the need for uncomfortable treatments like headgear. TADs are a safe and effective solution for patients requiring more precise orthodontic treatment. It’s important to note that TADs are not for everyone, and your Space City Orthodontics doctor will advise you about whether they’re suitable for you during your consultation.

How long will I have to have braces?

Most patients will complete braces treatment in 12 to 24 months. It varies by individual, however, because each smile is different. When we start treatment, we can give you a good estimate of how long you’ll wear braces.

Then, a few months into your treatment, we’ll have an even better idea of how things are progressing. At that point, we’ll give you an even better estimate of how much time is left in your treatment.

Can I get braces that are less noticeable?

Of course! Ceramic braces, for example, are a popular option when you want a bit more discreet approach. They’re very similar to traditional metal braces—we use brackets and wires here, too. The difference is that instead of stainless steel, ceramic brackets are made of a white or clear ceramic material that better blends with your smile.

How much do braces cost in Houston?

It depends on which braces you choose, the length of time your treatment lasts, and other considerations unique to your smile. Space City Orthodontics offers payment plans, and we’ll work with your insurance to optimize your benefits to help you work out an affordable approach to ensure you get the care you need.
